Last year, there was a discussion group at the library based on readings
from "Menu for the Future: Sustainable Food Systems", from the Catamount Earth
institute. This year, they are sponsoring a "Healthy People, Healthy Planet"
series ----- a six session reading and discussion series that explores "good
health",
the connection between human health and the environment, and how we can
sustain both. The  discussion topics include: precautionary medicine; eating
well; household toxins, and healthy natural systems. Throughout the discussion
guide there are individual actions that promote good health and in turn,
promote a healthier environment.
Healthy People, Healthy Planet is for groups of 8-12 people, meets weekly for
1 ½ hours, and is based on a discussion guide and anthology – A World of
Health – by the Northwest Earth Institute. The discussion is largely self-
facilitated.  There are sets of books available to library groups. For more
information, see www.catamountearthinstitute.org . If anyone is interested in
organizing a discussion group, please email or call the library (765-4037)
