October 4, 2012
Special programs coming up at the library:
Thursday, Oct. 25th: everyone is welcome to the annual meeting of the Friends of the Morrill Memorial Library.
        6:30 - a short business meeting
7 - The Strafford Writers Group will treat us to a selection of readings by their members.
Thursday, Nov. 8: 7pm, Strafford resident Hill Anderson will read from his new book "Stoneport".
Date TBA: Gus Speth, whose new book "America the Possible" is here. We will announce the date as
soon as it's set, hopefully the end of Oct. / beginning of Nov.

If you missed the PBS special "Half the Sky", you can watch it online by going to  http://video.pbs.org/video/2283557115
The book is available at the library.

The Reading Group is continuing with Russian lit, and will discuss "The Cossacks" by Leo Tolstoy and a narrative
poem, "Gypsies" by Alexander Pushkin at their next meeting, Thursday, 10/25 at 1pm. Copies of "Gypsies" are
available at the library (or online).

Traditionally, fall is the busiest time of year for new books being published and there are
just too many new titles to list them all, so do stop at the library to see what has been added to the collection.
(Keep in mind that new books, audiobooks and DVD's do go out quickly, but we can keep you on a waiting list).
Or check our catalog if you're looking for a particular title ...... just go to our website,
www.straffordlibrary.org    and click on "Public Access Catalog", follow the directions and click on the link
to the catalog .......... or call the library at 765-4037. Just some highlights:
New fiction by Michael Chabon, Louise Erdrich, Junot Diaz, Zadie Smith, Ken Follett, Kevin Powers, Dennis Lehane, etc.
Mysteries by Archer Mayor, Lee Child, Jo Nesbo, Attica Locke, etc.
Non fiction by Salmon Rushdie, Mitch Albom, Gretchen Rubin, Will Schwalbe, Tom reiss, etc.
Kids books by Rick Riordan, Lois Lowry, Mo Willems, Anna Dewdney, Philip Stead, Candace Fleming, etc.

Thanks from the Library--9/11/2012

September 11, 2012
In addition to making available a stimulating series of readings and
discussions to town residents, this summer’s Town House Forum also provided
a substantial donation to the library for the purchase of new books. The
gift to the library – made possible through the contributions of people who
attended the series – will significantly increase this year’s book budget
and expand our collection in a way that will benefit library patrons for
years to come. The library trustees sincerely thank th...

the program will run from 3:15 - 4:15, instead of 4:30. We hope this isn't an
inconvenience, but Emily needs to leave in a timely fashion and we have been finding
that after an hour, most kids are ready for something else. So, please pick up at 4:15.

We are also (sadly) suspending Storytime on Fridays ..... there just hasn't been enough
interest. Do let us know if yo...
