September 19, 2011
Our "After School" program will start up again this Thursday, Sept. 22!
Students can take the bus directly from Newton School, right to the library
----- please send in a note with your child notifying the school that they will
be headed here. Read aloud, snacks (donations always welcome) and activities,
from 3:15 - 4:30 (please pick up promptly). Call 765-4037 if you have any
questions.

Storytime continues on Fridays at 10 am.

New books include: fiction: "The Language of Flowers" - Vanessa Diffenbaugh;
 "The Night Circus" - Erin Morgenstern; "The Leftovers" - Tom Perrotta; "We
the Animals" - Justin Torres; "Emory's Gift" - Bruce Cameron; new mysteries:
 "A Trick of the Light" - Louise Penny; "The Dog Who Knew Too Much" - Spencer
Quinn; " The Most Dangerous Thing" - Laura Lippman; "The Keeper of Lost Causes"
- Jussi Adler-Olsen; "Eighty Dollar Champion" - Elizabeth Letts; poetry: "The
Back Chamber" - Donald Hall; a new bio: "Ethan Allen" - Willard Sterne Randall;
and for younger readers: "Wonderstruck" - Brian Selznick; the first two in the
"Amulet" series (graphic novels); picturebooks: "Brother Sun, Sister Moon -
Katherine Paterson; and an adorable " Betty Bunny Loves Chocolate Cake" -
Michael Kaplan.

MONDAY: 5 - 8 pm: a FEMA INFORMATION & HELP SESSION.

There will be FEMA representatives as well as volunteers from Vermont Law
School here at the library to assist people
with filing insurance claims and / or FEMA forms.
If you or someone you know has sustained damage from the storm, come in and
get help...... please tell neighbors,
friends and relatives who may not be on the list serv or seeing information
online.
If you have a laptop and a flash drive, bring it along.

Friday: STORYTIME for preschoolers continues ---- 10 am

Saturday: (rescheduled) Summer Reading Log Celebration ----- 9 am. If your
children participated in our reading log program, please bring them in for a
short celebration in their honor (with some surprises, thanks to "The Friends
of the Morrill Library") ---- the kids did a great job!

The after school program will start up again soon ----- we'll keep you posted
when we're ready to start.

Library Notes--9/2/2011

For the children who participated in our "Summer Reading Log" program, we have
rescheduled the celebration for Saturday, Sept. 10 (a week from tomorrow)
at 9am, to honor all of them. We are delighted to report that 25 kids
participated (new kindergartners to 6th graders) and read a total of 213 books!
We are amazed and proud of them ------ we hope they will all come by the
library on Sept. 10th for our short celebration. The Friends of the Morrill

our bench or in your car.

It's a great time to visit the library ----- it's nice and cool inside!

We are in the planning stages for events for the "VERMONT READS" program, and
will post dates as soon as we schedule them. Meanwhile, come in and pick up a copy of
"To Kill a Mockingbird"so you can start reading.

Oliver Munson (7th grader) wants to start a Dungeons & Dragons group, to meet
at the library on Mondays from 3:30 - 5pm. He needs four people to start a group ------ please call him at 765-4196 to let him know if you're interested.
