Minutes for the June 10 Trustees Meeting

The meeting convened at 7 p.m. in the library. Present were Carol Wilson, Melissa Strayton (librarian), Rachel Kurland, Cindy Binzen, Curt Albee, Kerry Claffey (bookkeeper) and Marty Frank.

Minutes from the May meeting were approved.

Librarian’s Report: Melissa said the after-school program wrapped up with a big, rambunctious group and a scavenger hunt. Melissa suggested that it would make sense to find someone else to run the program next year and thanked Carol for the enormous help she has provided. Melissa said she has fallen behind in ordering materials for the collection but planned to get one in the next day and follow that up quickly with an order for children’s materials.

The summer reading program is being put together. One impediment is some of the stuff - posters, logs, stickers, etc — was rescued from the flood but disappeared after being removed from the water. It was suggested that Melissa check with the state to arrange replacements or see if other libraries have extras. Melissa has contacted a couple of people about presenting programs and is planning to do programs on the moon, stars/mythology and planets — in addition to the fire truck night.

The new Kanopy service seems to be working well. Marty said he will put information about it on the website and Melissa will disseminate that same blurb on the listserv. Melissa hasn’t pursued buying a new laptop for circulation work. We did get a renewal notice for Library World — it will be about $450 for the annual fee. Ed Eastman has agreed to take over the cleaning.

Friends report: Rachel distributed the flyers prepared to promote the book sale. She has decided to try selling mass-market paperbacks in bulk — $5 per box.

Treasurer’s Report: Kerry distributed the most recent profit and loss statement, which contained no surprises. Rachel hasn’t heard anything back from our agent about finding a new insurance company. More than $1,000 has come in to help with flood/septic work.

Miscellaneous: The website needs to be updated a bit. Dori Wolfe will be in town soon; we hope Doc Bagley can talk to her and make sense of what’s going on with our arrangement for solar-generated electricity. Curt said he contacted Shawn Harlow about the pump repair work, and Shawn \said he would be happy to take on library work when it arises. We’re still waiting for the septic plan from Tom Otterman and then get a price from Brent Cadwell. Everyone is lined up to do the work; we’re just waiting for a plan.

Service Master has received Curt’s letter challenging their bill for the cleanup; no response yet. The board agreed to await Service Master’s reply. Rocky is still checking out the lamppost situation.

Stuart Smith said he hasn’t been able to arrange for musicians to perform this year and there will be no benefit concert.

The next meeting will be July 8 at 7 p.m. at Kerry’s office.
